Education - Director of Education

 SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Provides and coordinates Nursing educational initiatives and continuing education in conjunction with Department Directors.
  • Coordinates the planning and implementation of community education. 
  • Coordinates community health fairs in cooperation with Health Fair Committee. 
  • Organizes and coordinates the Nursing Skills Carnival and Nurses’ Aide Skills Carnival. 
  • Maintains CPR and ACLS Instructor certification and coordinates instructors to certify hospital employees and persons in the community in BLS courses. 
  • Works with clinical departments through the regular conduction of CODE drills while incorporating ACLS protocols. 
  • Participates in the development of educational materials as necessary.  
  • Participates in the development of simulation scenarios and provides simulation training to clinical department staff.   
  • Schedules and facilitates meetings with members of the education teams within the clinical departments to ensure that education is made available in all clinical areas of the hospital.  
  • Participates actively on committees as assigned. 
 
REPORT RELATIONSHIP: 
  • Operationally, reports to the Chief Nursing Officer.
 
REQUIREMENTS: 
  • 1)  Current Texas License to work as a Registered Nurse and graduate of an accredited school of nursing 
  • 2)  5 years clinical experience in acute care setting 
  • 3)  Knowledge and experience in adult education principles and/or patient care  practice
  • 4)  CPR instructor certification
  • 5)  ACLS Instructor certification

Must have current licensure/certifications upon hire. 

New Hires will have 60 days to acquire the required Basic Life Support (CPR, ACLS, PALS, BLS, and/or any other life support certifications required for the job).
 
EMPLOYEE STATUS: 
  • Exempt hourly
 
OSHA TASK CATEGORY TWO: 
  • There is an occasional risk of exposure to mucous membranes or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashed during the performance of the job. 
  • Universal precautions must be observed and protective devices worn by the employee when performing a task that is likely to cause exposure.
