Laboratory - Laboratory Specimen Technician, Argyle

  • The specimen tech coordinates phlebotomy care and specimen processing for the pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. 
  • Specimen Techs collect and process DoT and non-DoT urine drug screens and perform breath alcohol testing when required.
  • The specimen tech maintains positive working relationships with staff and other departments to provide optimal quality outcomes within the framework of phlebotomy practice.
  • The specimen tech demonstrates a knowledge base and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the condition and age of the patients served.
  • These responsibilities are met according to hospital and laboratory policies and the hospital’s vision and mission statements.

  • Operationally, reports to the Laboratory Director.
  • 1) High school diploma/GED
  • 2) Phlebotomy or EMT certificate from an accredited program required or minimum five years of phlebotomy experience. 
  • 3) Phlebotomy experience in an acute care setting recommended
  • 4) must pass a WorkSTEPs test
  • There is an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes during the performance of the job. 
  • Universal precautions must be observed and protective devices worn by the employees when performing those tasks likely to cause exposure.
Employment standards include current requirements as determined by Federal, State, and Wise Health System policy.

New Hires will have 60 days to acquire the required Basic Life Support (CPR or any other life support certifications required for the job).
