Surgery - RN OR Team Leader, Argyle

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • The Perioperative RN Team Leader plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates the overall clinical practices and activities necessary for the operating room to function on a daily basis;
  • Participates in the interviewing of employees and participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures;
  • Ensures the availability of all supplies, equipment and instrumentation needed for scheduled cases;
  • Helps maintain accountability for charges for supplies and equipment in the operating room and reduce waste. 
  • Must be able to identify, intervene appropriately and resolve problems in a timely and respectful manner; be able to use leadership skills to promote teamwork by example.    
  • Must be able to function as Perioperative RN in the role of circulator and/or scrub as needed to maintain clinical skills and serve as a role model in the operating room by following AORN Guidelines for Perioperative Practice, and WHS policies and procedures.
  • The nurse will demonstrate a knowledge base and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the condition and age of the patients served in the surgical setting.
  • The nurse must demonstrate familiarity with the principles of growth and development throughout the life cycle. 
  • The nurse must be able to assimilate basic knowledge and patient related data to perform a comprehensive and age appropriate assessment. 
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Participates in quality review and performance improvement projects; uses problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members; maintains required competencies, pursues professional growth and participates in a professional organization; acts as a patient advocate and maintains privacy and confidentiality of all appropriate information. 
  • These responsibilities are met according to hospital policy, hospital mission statement and the philosophy of the Department of Nursing 
 
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
  • The Perioperative RN Team Leader reports directly to the Manager of Surgery and is under the direction of the Chief Clinical Officer.
 
REQUIREMENTS:    
  • 1) Possess current licensure to practice nursing in Texas  
  • 2) Must be certified in BCLS   
  • 3) ACLS  
  • 4) PALS   
  • 5) Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification preferred   
  • 6)  Minimum of 2 years experience in the surgical setting preferred
  • 7) Team Lead/Charge Nurse experience preferred
  • 8) Call may be required
 
Must have current licensure/certifications upon hire. 

New Hires will have 60 days to acquire the required Basic Life Support (CPR, ACLS, PALS, BLS, and/or any other life support certifications required for the job).
 
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  
  • Physically demanding, high stress environment, must be able to lift 10-20lbs daily, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

  • Practices within the system and departmental policies and procedures. 
 
OSHA TASK CATEGORY ONE:
  • There is an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills splashes during the performance of the job. 
  • Universal precautions must be observed and protective devices worn by the employee when performing those tasks likely to cause exposure.
