  • The PSU nurse coordinates nursing care and patient/family education for Adolescent, Adult, Pediatric, and Geriatric patients through the use of the nursing process; maintains positive working relationships with staff and other departments to provide optimal quality outcomes within the framework of professional nursing practice. 
  • These responsibilities are met according to hospital policy, hospital mission statement and the philosophy of the Department of Nursing.
  • The nurse must actively participate in the Unified Leadership Council according to policy.
  • Complete Unit Specific training as determined by the Unit Manager.  
  • Demonstrates the knowledge base and the skills necessary to provide care; appropriate to the condition and age of the patients served. 
  • The nurse must demonstrate familiarity with the principles of growth and development throughout the life cycle. 
  • The nurse must be able to assimilate basic knowledge and patient related data to perform a comprehensive and age appropriate assessment, using the total patient care concept to identify each patient requirements and specific needs.
  • The PSU nurse must have extensive knowledge in all areas of nursing and telemetry skills, as well as the ability to exhibit critical thinking.
  • The PSU nurse is expected to actively seek out additional learning opportunities.
  • This includes but is not limited to: on the floor experiences, hospital classes, continuing education credits, seminars, conventions, etc.
  • The PSU nurse is also required to be willing to educate both new hires AND nursing/EMT students.
  • All PSU nurses should be willing to fill the role of Preceptor, if necessary.  
  • Complete Unit Specific training as determined by the Unit Manager.
  • Will be able to triage an ER patient, complete a brief assessment, and help facilitate a discharge or transfer of that patient.
  • REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:  Operationally, the Staff RN reports to the Department Manager, and administratively to the Parkway administrator and Chief Nursing Officer.
  • Hourly, Non-Exempt
  • 1) Possess current licensure to practice nursing in Texas
  • 2) BLS   
  • 3) ACLS   
  • 4) PALS
Must have current licensure/certifications upon hire. 

New Hires will have 60 days to acquire the required PALS certification and will not assume care of a pediatric patient without current PALS certification.
  • 1) 2 years post-surgical experience preferred
  • 2) Experience in cardiac rhythm recognition  
  • There is an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills splashes during the performance of the job. 
  • Universal precautions must be observed and protective devices worn by the employee when performing those tasks likely to cause exposure.

Employment standards include current requirements as determined by Federal, State, and Wise Health System policy.
