Dialysis - Dialysis CHT/CCHT

  • The Patient Care Technician will administer quality patient care in accordance with facility policies and procedures while working collaboratively and communicating with members of the interdisciplinary team. 
  • Delivers care to adult chronic hemodialysis patients under the direct supervision of the licensed nursing staff. 
  • Assists with technical aspects of hemodialysis care such as water system monitoring, bicarbonate mixing, and equipment calibration. 
  • Works to ensure the attainment of patient outcomes that meet KDOQI goals while following regulatory requirements of the Texas Department of State Health Services and the Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services. 
  • Behaviors foster a team approach to patient care delivery. 
  • Read, speak, write and understand English and ability to do simple math; addition, subtraction, multiplication, division.
  • Reports to the Clinical Manager, Charge Nurse and nursing staff. 
  • 1)  High school diploma or equivalent preferred 
  • 2)  Current certification, or eligibility to become a Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT), or Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT), by a national certification organization (Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission, NNCC, National Nephrology Certification Organization, NNCO, or Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology, BONENT 
  • 3)  Minimum of 6 months of experience in acute or chronic hemodialysis obtained within the past 12 months preferred. 
  • 4)  Current CPR   
  • 5)  Normal color perception

  • Requires walking, standing, stooping and bending. 
  • Must be able to do lifting of at least 20 lbs. 
  • Requires close mental, visual and auditory attention to patient. 
  • Work environment is characteristic of a health care facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels. 

New Hires will have 60 days to acquire the required Basic Life Support (CPR, ACLS, PALS, BLS, and/or any other life support certifications required for the job).

  1. There is an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills splashes during the performance of the job. 
  2. Universal precautions must be observed and protective devices worn by the employee when performing those tasks likely to cause exposure.
Employment standards include current requirements as determined by Federal, State, and Wise Health System policy.
