Surgery - PACU Staff RN - Decatur

JOB TITLE:           PACU Staff RN
 
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinates nursing care and patient/family education for Newborn, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric patients through the use of the nursing process; maintains positive working relationships with staff and other departments to provide optimal quality outcomes within the framework of professional nursing practice. 
  • These responsibilities are met according to hospital policy, hospital mission statement and the philosophy of the Department of Nursing. 
  • The RN should demonstrate a knowledge base and skill set necessary to provide care appropriate to the condition and age of the patients served. 
  • The nurse must demonstrate familiarity with the principles of growth and development throughout the life cycle. 
  • The nurse must be able to assimilate basic knowledge and patient related data to perform a comprehensive and age appropriate assessment.
  • The RN must be aware of ASPAN standards, regarding patient care in the PACU.
  • The PACU RN must have or obtain an advanced understanding of surgical procedures and the affects of anesthesia on the post-op patient.
 
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: 
  • Operationally, the Staff RN reports to the Department Manager and the Director of Surgery, and administratively to the Chief Nursing Officer.
 
REQUIREMENTS:    
  • 1.)  Possess current licensure to practice nursing in Texas    
  • 2.) Certified in BCLS, ACLS, and PALS 
  • 3.)  Experience in PACU setting or other Critical Care settings preferred.   
  • 4)  Specialty Certification preferred   
  • 5) Basic Arrhythmia/Telemetry training preferred
   
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Able to lift 50-60 lbs daily
 
EMPLOYEE STATUS:
  • Non-exempt hourly
 
OSHA TASK CATEGORY ONE:       
  • There is an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills splashes during the performance of the job. 
  • Universal precautions must be observed and protective devices worn by the employee when performing those tasks likely to cause exposure.
