Critical Care Unit - RN

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • The Critical Care Nurse coordinates nursing care and patient/family education for Adolescent, Adult, Pediatric, and Geriatric patients through the use of the nursing process; maintains positive working relationships with staff and other departments to provide optimal quality outcomes within the framework of professional nursing practice. 
  • These responsibilities are met according to hospital policy, hospital mission statement and the philosophy of the Department of Nursing.
  • The nurse must actively participate in the Unified Leadership Council according to policy.  
  •  Complete Unit Specific training as determined by the Unit Director.  
  • Demonstrates knowledge base and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the condition and age of the patients served.  The nurse must demonstrate familiarity with the principles of growth and development throughout the life cycle. 
  • The nurse must be able to assimilate basic knowledge and patient related data to perform a comprehensive and age appropriate assessment, using the total patient care concept to identify each patient requirements and specific needs.
  • The Critical Care nurse must have extensive knowledge in all areas of nursing, as well as the ability to exhibit critical thinking.
  • The CCU nurse is expected to actively seek out additional learning opportunities.
  • This includes but is not limited to: on the floor experiences, hospital classes, continuing education credits, seminars, conventions, etc.
  • The CCU nurse is also required to be willing to educate both new hires AND nursing/EMT students.
  • All CCU nurses should be willing to fill the role of Preceptor, if necessary.  
  • Complete Unit Specific training as determined by the Unit Director.
 
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: 
  • Operationally, the Staff RN reports to the Department Manager/Assistant Director, House Supervisor, and administratively to the Chief Nursing Officer.
 
STATUS:  Hourly, Non-Exempt
 
REQUIREMENTS: 
  • 1) Possess current licensure to practice nursing in Texas. 
  • 2)  Must be certified in BLS  
  • 3)  ACLS
  • 4) PALS


Must have current licensure/certifications upon hire. 

New Hires will have 60 days to acquire the required Basic Life Support (CPR, ACLS, PALS, BLS, and/or any other life support certifications required for the job).
 
RECOMMENDED:
  • 1) 2 years CVICU experience preferred. 
  • 2) Experience in cardiac rhythm recognition 
  • 3) Specialty Certifications (CCRN, TNCC, etc)
 
OSHA TASK CATEGORY ONE:  
  • There is an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills splashes during the performance of the job. 
  • Universal precautions must be observed and protective devices worn by the employee when performing those tasks likely to cause exposure.
 
Employment standards include current requirements as determined by Federal, State, and Wise Health System policy.
