Behavioral Health - Staff LVN

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • The Licensed Vocational Nurse, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, provides direct patient care to both geriatric and adult psychiatric populations by assessing patients, implementing treatments and documenting findings related to patient status and effects of care.
  • Directing non licensed personnel is a daily responsibility of the LVN, as well as assisting non licensed personnel in their duties when the demands of the unit and needs of the patient necessitate.
  • This includes, but is not limited to, transferring patients, assisting with hygiene care and ADLs, taking vital signs, and patient observations. 
  • The LVN demonstrates skills basic to vocational training, and must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. 
  • The nurse must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient requirement relative to his or her age-specific needs.
  • The psychiatric LVN must possess the ability to provide care in a customer service oriented capacity, paying specific attention to customer satisfaction and providing an environment conducive to the best outcome for every patient.
  • The nursing functions of the LVN are carried out according to hospital policy, hospital mission statement and the philosophy of the Department of Nursing.
  • Prefer a minimum of one year acute inpatient psychiatric experience.
 
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: 
  • The LVN reports operationally to the Unit Charge Nurse, House Supervisor and Unit Manager; administratively to the Unit Manager, Chief Nursing Officer and Program Director.
 
REQUIREMENTS: 
  • 1)  LVN is a graduate of an accredited LVN school and holds a Current Texas LVN licensure 
  • 2)  CPR certification 
  • 3)  Documented attendance in management of aggressive behavior training through WHS
 
Must have current licensure/certifications upon hire. 

New Hires will have 60 days to acquire the required Basic Life Support (CPR, ACLS, PALS, BLS, and/or any other life support certifications required for the job).
 
OSHA TASK CATEGORY ONE: 
  • There is an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes during the performance of the job. 
  • Universal precautions must be observed and protective devices worn by the employees when performing those tasks likely to cause exposure.
 
Employment standards include current requirements as determined by Federal, State, and Wise Health System policy.
