Critical Care Unit - LVN/Ward Clerk/Telemetry Tech

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • The LVN demonstrates skills basic to vocational training, and must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. 
  • The nurse must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient requirement relative to his or her age-specific needs.
  • The nursing functions of the LVN are carried out according to hospital policy, hospital mission statement and the philosophy of the Department of Nursing.
  • All nursing care is monitored by an RN.
  • The LVN must exhibit a positive, friendly attitude; have good communication skills and exemplary customer service skills.
  • The nurse must actively participate in the Unified Leadership Council. 
  • Complete Unit Specific training as determined by the Unit Director.
 
  • The Telemetry Tech is an individual who will obtain or who has already obtained knowledge and skill interpreting cardiac rhythms through classes provided by WHS and through on the job training. 
  • Tele Tech will be responsible for providing accurate documentation of cardiac rhythms every four hours and as needed per individual patient cardiac changes. 
  • Tech’s will work well with other departments, perform duties within, and maintain a safe environment. 
  • A professional appearance must be maintained at all times.
 
  • The Ward Clerk assumes responsibilities for clerical support of the nursing unit. 
  • This may include but is not limited to the following functions:
  • Assist in the admission and discharge process
  • Maintain patient records
  • Maintain accurate communications: coordinates unit communication with other departments in customer-friendly and safe atmosphere
  • Transcribe physician orders
  • Maintain an efficient nursing station
  • Other duties as assigned by supervising RN
  • The ward clerk must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel

 
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: 
  • Reports operationally to the Unit Charge Nurse, and administratively to the Unit Director/Assistant Director and House Supervisor.
  • Directly supervises no employees

 STATUS:   
  • Hourly
 
REQUIREMENTS: 
  • 1). Current Texas LVN licensure 
  • 2). CPR certification  
  • 3). ACLS certification


Must have current licensure/certifications upon hire. 

New Hires will have 60 days to acquire the required Basic Life Support (CPR, ACLS, PALS, BLS, and/or any other life support certifications required for the job).
 
OSHA TASK CATEGORY ONE: 
  • There is an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes during the performance of the job. 
  • Universal precautions must be observed and protective devices worn by the employees when performing those tasks likely to cause exposure.
 
Employment standards include current requirements as determined by Federal, State, and Wise Health System policy.
