SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Oncology Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant position supports a busy medical oncologist/hematologist, working as part of an interdisciplinary team caring for adult patients with oncologic and hematologic diagnoses.
  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care for individual patients.
  • Initiates and documents appropriate interventions; evaluates and records patient/family response within practice protocol; prescribes drug therapies per protocol/physician consultation.
  • Assists physicians and performs procedures as needed; conducts patient assessments and provides physician with information prior to seeing the patient.
  • Assesses patient/family needs and provides education.
  • Promotes wellness and recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.

REPORT RELATIONSHIP: 
  • Reports to the WHC Manager/ Director and supervising physician

 REQUIREMENTS: 
  • 1) Possess current licensure to practice nursing in Texas as a  Nurse Practitioner or Graduate of an Accredited          Physician’s Assistant Studies program. 
  • 2)  Experience in specific oncology setting preferred 
  • 3)  CPR 
  • 4)  Privileges through Wise Health System
 
Must have current licensure/certifications upon hire. 

New Hires will have 60 days to acquire the required Basic Life Support (CPR, ACLS, PALS, BLS, and/or any other life support certifications required for the job).
 
OSHA TASK CATEGORY ONE:  
  • There is an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills splashes during the performance of the job. 
  • Universal precautions must be observed and protective devices worn by the employee when performing those tasks likely to cause exposure.
 
Employment standards include current requirements as determined by Federal, State, and Wise Health System policy.
 
Physical requirements:   
  • Able to lift 30 pounds on a regular basis to 42”
  • Able to lift 10-20 pounds daily
  • Able to lift 50-80 occasionally
